Repairing God's Creation

A couple of years ago I noticed that the trim around the windows on our home were beginning to look a little shabby. During the process of scraping, sanding, and applying wood filler to get the aging trim ready for paint, The Lord gave me another object lesson I thought I would pass along.

After all of my efforts including a coat of primer and some way too-expensive paint—the trim looked alright but it was clear to see that it didn't look brand new. There was only way to make the trim really look new and that would be to replace the old wood.

When it comes to a house, it may be alright to have weather damaged window trim that looks alright to your eye. But when it comes to our sin-damaged hearts, it’s not enough to try to fix things up. From God’s point of view, we need all things to become new (2 Cor. 5:17).

That is the beauty of accepting the salvation brought to us through our faith in Jesus. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin and rose from the dead to display His power over sin and death. His sacrificial act resulted in that in God’s eyes, faith in Christ’s work makes us a “new creation” (2 Cor. 5:17). It replaces the old with a “new life” (Acts 5:20). Looking through Jesus and His work on the cross for us, our heavenly Father sees everyone who has put his or her faith in Him as new and unblemished.

It is Sin that has caused the great damage. Our sin nature that all mankind has had to deal with since the Garden of Eden. It damaged God's perfect creation. No matter how hard we try, we can’t fix it ourselves. Only Jesus was able to physically live a sinless life as a human being. He wasn't tainted by the Original Sin like we are. No matter how hard we try, we simply can't live a 100% sin free existence as humans.

Since it is sin that places a barrier between us and God and we can't fix it, we must trust Jesus as our Savior and let Him give us a brand-new life. As He lives and works within us, He changes us and brings about the repairs in our damaged lives that not only make us better people but useful people for work in God's fields.

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new"

Remember this the next time the enemy tries to tell you "You are just too broken to fix."
