Arizona Natural Disasters

I was a bit late getting todays post out. The earthquakes we experienced here in Arizona last night didn't have any effect on us as we as we are about 65 mile from Black Canyon City. It wasn't a large quake anyway. At least by quake standards. I personally didn't even feel it but some of the livestock apparently did and it shook them up a little bit. Animals are much more sensitive to those things than we humans are. Anyway, It took a little time to get them settled down.

Actually, our dog was probably freaked out the most. She's a Jack Russell Terrier and Shepard mix and is rather high stung to begin with and every time we get a thunderstorm she hides under the bed. She will take on a coyote or havelina and hold her own but the unexpected can sure shake her up.  I could also tell the chickens didn't like the quake either because they were carrying on for a short time. Of course, chickens aren't known for being the brightest of livestock anyway.

Most folks come to Arizona to get away from natural disasters. After all we only have Dust Storms, Washes that flash flood, Forest fires, Extreme heat, Landslides in some areas and now earthquakes. Actually, Arizona has had earthquakes before but they are few and far between. I probably could include some of our drivers on the list also but that's another story.
